What Is REDCREEK-TRAP-MIB?
REDCREEK-TRAP-MIB is a RedCreek Communications enterprise MIB defining SNMP trap (notification) types for IPSec VPN gateway appliances, covering VPN tunnel lifecycle events and security-related alarms. Rather than exposing polled tables, it is a notifications-only MIB whose objects fire asynchronously when tunnel state changes or a security condition is detected, giving event-driven visibility into VPN service and security status. Its relevance to monitoring is primarily fault/event-based software status: it lets an operator learn in near real time about tunnel establishment/teardown, tunnel failures, and security alarms (e.g. authentication failures, potential intrusion indicators) on the gateway, rather than relying solely on periodic polling. It is a standalone RedCreek proprietary enterprise MIB, typically used alongside RedCreek's broader configuration/VPN MIB suite that defines the tunnel and policy objects these traps reference. It is deployed on RedCreek Communications IPSec VPN gateway appliances used for site-to-site or remote-access VPN termination. Engineers can download the REDCREEK-TRAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in REDCREEK-TRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- RedCreek Communications IPSec VPN gateway appliance
Monitoring Examples
Since no sample_objects are provided, the module's content is exclusively NOTIFICATION-TYPE definitions; an NMS would configure trap receivers to catch a tunnel-down notification when a site-to-site IPSec tunnel drops unexpectedly, or a security-alarm trap indicating repeated failed authentication attempts against the gateway. An administrator troubleshooting an intermittent VPN connection would correlate the timing of these traps with tunnel drop reports from remote users to pinpoint whether the gateway itself is triggering the disconnects.
What Can Be Monitored
- VPN tunnel up/down events
- tunnel establishment/teardown notifications
- security alarm/authentication-failure events
