Description: Manages Cisco Small Business Policy-Based Routing (PBR) rules for traffic path selection.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCOSB-PBR-MIB?
CISCOSB-PBR-MIB is a private Cisco Small Business MIB that manages Policy-Based Routing (PBR), letting traffic on an interface be forwarded according to route-map policy rather than plain destination-based routing. It exposes configuration data mapping interfaces to route-maps and derived operational information such as the resolved access-list and next-hop address the policy is currently using. From a monitoring perspective it is mainly about software/configuration status: confirming a PBR policy is active and enabled on the expected interface (rlPBRStatus/rlPBRRowStatus) and that it is resolving to the intended next hop, which is critical for verifying traffic-engineering or failover policies are actually being applied. It relies on the standard ifIndex convention from IF-MIB to bind policies to interfaces, and on route-map/access-list constructs shared with Cisco's routing MIBs. It is typically deployed on Cisco Small Business routers where selective path steering (e.g., for VPN or ISP failover) is configured. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCOSB-PBR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCOSB-PBR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco Small Business (SB/SG series) router
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would check rlPBRTable/rlPBREntry keyed by rlPBRIfIndex to confirm rlPBRRouteMapName is bound and rlPBRStatus shows the policy active on the intended interface. Cross-referencing rlPBRInfoTable's rlPBRInfoAccessListName and rlPBRInfoNexthopInetAddress reveals which access-list classified the traffic and which next hop it was actually routed to, letting an admin confirm PBR is steering traffic as designed. If rlPBRInfoNexthopInetAddress unexpectedly shows the default gateway instead of the policy-specified next hop, the route-map match criteria are likely misconfigured.
What Can Be Monitored
- PBR policy status per interface
- bound route-map name
- resolved access-list name
- resolved next-hop address and type
- PBR row/admin status
