What Is CISCO-WAN-ATM-COSB-MIB?

CISCO-WAN-ATM-COSB-MIB manages Class-of-Service Buffer (COSB) queuing on Cisco WAN ATM platforms, where each virtual interface maintains multiple CoS queues mapped to ATM traffic types such as CBR, VBR-rt, and ABR to provide quality-of-service differentiation. It exposes alarm-configuration objects for cell-discard thresholds per COSB, an interval-statistics table tracking cell arrivals, discards, and departures over configurable intervals, and general alarm-status objects. This is a performance/traffic-monitoring MIB: administrators watch cell discard counts relative to arrivals and departures to detect congestion or QoS violations on a specific CoS queue, and check the alarm status to see if a discard threshold alarm has fired. It operates within the broader Cisco WAN ATM connection/QoS MIB family on MGX platforms, relying on the underlying ATM interface and connection MIBs for interface context. It is deployed on Cisco MGX ATM switch service modules where per-CoS-queue traffic shaping and congestion monitoring are required. Engineers can download the CISCO-WAN-ATM-COSB-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-WAN-ATM-COSB-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco MGX WAN ATM switch service module

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll cwacIntervalTable/cwacIntervalEntry keyed by cwacCosbIndex and cwacIntervalNumber, comparing cwacIntCellDiscards against cwacIntCellArrivals to compute a discard ratio for a specific CoS buffer; a rising ratio indicates that queue is congested and dropping ATM cells. The cwacStatsAlarmConfgTable's cwacCosbCurrentCellsDiscThres defines the threshold at which cwacStatsAlarmStatus would flag an active discard alarm for that buffer. cwacValidIntervals tells the poller how many completed statistics intervals are available to retrieve.

What Can Be Monitored

  • cell arrivals/discards/departures per CoS buffer
  • discard alarm threshold and status
  • per-interval traffic statistics
  • valid statistics intervals available

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using cwacIntCellArrivals OID:

Select a Cisco MGX WAN ATM switching platform (legacy) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type cwacIntCellArrivals into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The number of cells arrived at the queue during a particular 15 minute interval. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
