Category: Telephony and VoIP, Vendor: Cisco Devices

Description: Monitors Cisco voice connectivity status between telephony endpoints and call processing entities.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-VOICE-CONNECTIVITY-MIB?

The CISCO-VOICE-CONNECTIVITY-MIB monitors connectivity between voice gateway ports and call-control entities such as call agents or Call Manager in Cisco VoIP deployments. It exposes a table of known call agents (name, network address, and type) alongside a table associating each voice port with its call agent. Its focus is fault/connectivity status monitoring: it reveals which call agent a given gateway port is registered to and whether that association is healthy, which is critical for diagnosing gateways that have lost registration with their call-control server. It depends on the IETF INET-ADDRESS-MIB conventions for typing call-agent addresses and complements Cisco's broader VoIP/call-control MIB suite. It is deployed on Cisco voice gateways and IP-to-PSTN gateways registered to a call agent or Call Manager cluster. Engineers can download the CISCO-VOICE-CONNECTIVITY-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-VOICE-CONNECTIVITY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco voice gateways
  • Cisco IP-to-PSTN gateways

Monitoring Examples

An engineer polls cvcCallAgentTable/cvcCallAgentEntry to list each configured cvcCallAgentName, cvcCallAgentInetAddress, and cvcCallAgentType (e.g., MGCP or SIP) known to the gateway, then checks cvcPortTable's cvcPortAssociation and cvcPortDeviceName to confirm which physical voice port is bound to which call agent. A port showing no association, or pointing to an unreachable call agent address, signals a lost registration and explains why calls on that port are failing.

What Can Be Monitored

  • configured call agents and their addresses
  • call agent type (MGCP/SIP/H.323)
  • port-to-call-agent association
  • port registration status
