Category: SNMP Framework, Vendor: Cisco Devices

Description: Defines agent capability statements for Cisco VLAN membership assignment and tracking.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-VLAN-MEMBERSHIP-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-VLAN-MEMBERSHIP-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module that declares which specific objects, groups, and variations of the CISCO-VLAN-MEMBERSHIP-MIB a particular Cisco device's SNMP agent implements. Rather than exposing any runtime data itself, it is purely a conformance/compatibility declaration used by network management systems to determine what a given switch or router supports for dynamic VLAN membership assignment and tracking. As such it carries no hardware or software status information of its own -- no uptime, temperature, counters, or fault data -- and exists solely to describe implementation scope. It exists only in relation to its target MIB, CISCO-VLAN-MEMBERSHIP-MIB, on which it entirely depends. It is used by MIB compilers and NMS platforms during capability negotiation/documentation, not for live device monitoring. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-VLAN-MEMBERSHIP-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-VLAN-MEMBERSHIP-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral conformance module (applies to any Cisco device implementing CISCO-VLAN-MEMBERSHIP-MIB)

Monitoring Examples

This module contains no runtime data objects; it is a pure AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance statement listing which CISCO-VLAN-MEMBERSHIP-MIB objects and groups a device's agent supports, so there is no realistic monitoring scenario to describe.
