Description: Declares agent capability statements for Cisco VISM module-level management MIB across MGX platform releases.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-VISM-MODULE-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-VISM-MODULE-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module that documents which objects and groups of the separate CISCO-VISM-MODULE-MIB are actually implemented by specific Cisco VISM firmware/software releases on the MGX platform. As a conformance/capability declaration, it does not define or expose any monitoring objects of its own; instead it enumerates supported variations for different VISM release levels. It therefore plays no direct role in monitoring hardware or software runtime status — its purpose is purely to inform network management systems which capabilities of the base MIB a given agent version supports, aiding interoperability rather than data collection. It is inherently dependent on, and meaningless without, the corresponding CISCO-VISM-MODULE-MIB whose object support it describes. Typical deployment context is within NMS tooling that needs to validate feature/version compatibility before polling a Cisco VISM module on an MGX chassis. Engineers can download the CISCO-VISM-MODULE-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-VISM-MODULE-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco VISM module (MGX platform)

Monitoring Examples

This module contains no runtime data objects and defines only AGENT-CAPABILITIES statements, so there is no monitoring scenario to describe. It is honestly a compliance/version-support declaration rather than a source of pollable status. An NMS would consult it only to determine, at configuration time, which CISCO-VISM-MODULE-MIB objects a given VISM agent release actually supports.
