Description: Declares agent capabilities for video session management including codec, bandwidth, and call statistics on Cisco platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-VIDEO-SESSION-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-VIDEO-SESSION-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES declaration for CISCO-VIDEO-SESSION-MIB, meaning it does not itself define managed objects but documents which parts of the referenced video-session MIB a given Cisco agent implementation actually supports. It exists purely as metadata for SNMP management stations to determine feature support (codec negotiation, bandwidth accounting, call statistics) before attempting to poll the underlying video-session objects. As such it has no direct role in reporting hardware/software status itself; its value is in preventing NMS tools from querying unsupported objects on a given platform. It is tightly coupled to and meaningless without CISCO-VIDEO-SESSION-MIB, which it describes compliance for. The CISCO-VIDEO-SESSION-CAPABILITY MIB appears in the MIB set of Cisco voice/video gateway and telepresence-capable platforms alongside the MIB it qualifies.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-VIDEO-SESSION-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based capabilities module — describes Cisco video/voice gateway and telepresence platforms

Monitoring Examples

A network management system would read this capabilities module to learn, for a specific Cisco device/software release, whether groups covering codec type, call bandwidth, or session statistics from CISCO-VIDEO-SESSION-MIB are implemented, before issuing GET requests for those objects. Without consulting it, an NMS might poll a video-bandwidth or codec object that the agent silently does not support, producing noSuchObject errors instead of real data.

What Can Be Monitored

  • supported video-session MIB groups
  • codec capability support
  • bandwidth accounting support
  • call statistics support
