Description: Declares agent capability statements for Cisco Virtual Switching System (VSS) management MIB on Catalyst platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-VIRTUAL-SWITCH-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-VIRTUAL-SWITCH-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module for Cisco IOS/Catalyst switches supporting Virtual Switching System (VSS) technology, describing which parts of the companion CISCO-VIRTUAL-SWITCH-MIB a given agent implementation supports. Rather than exposing operational data itself, it declares implementation scope — a compliance/compatibility statement rather than a source of interface, environmental, or performance counters. It does not directly surface hardware/software runtime status such as uptime, temperature, CPU load, or software version; it simply enumerates which VSS objects and notifications a management station can expect to poll. It is entirely dependent on CISCO-VIRTUAL-SWITCH-MIB, whose object groups and notifications it references and constrains. This module is used by NMS tooling during capability negotiation/compliance checks on Cisco Catalyst switches running VSS, rather than in routine monitoring dashboards. Engineers can download the CISCO-VIRTUAL-SWITCH-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-VIRTUAL-SWITCH-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Catalyst switches (VSS-capable)

Monitoring Examples

This is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES/conformance module with no runtime data objects of its own (sample_objects is empty), so there is no monitoring scenario to describe honestly beyond noting that it only declares which VSS objects an agent implements.
