Description: SNMP fault trap notifications (active, cleared, acknowledged) for Cisco UCS system-wide fault events

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-NOTIFS-MIB?

CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-NOTIFS-MIB defines the SNMP trap notifications used by Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) to report fault lifecycle events - faults being raised (active), cleared, and acknowledged - across the UCS hardware and management domain. Rather than data objects to poll, it is a notification-only module that packages information from the broader Cisco UCS fault/event model into SNMP traps. It is fundamentally a fault/alerting mechanism for monitoring the hardware and software status of UCS components (blades, chassis, fabric interconnects, and associated subsystems), since it is precisely how UCS Manager surfaces detected problems - hardware failures, environmental faults, configuration errors - to external monitoring systems in near real time. It depends heavily on the broader CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-MIB object model, since notification varbinds reference fault objects defined there. It is deployed wherever Cisco UCS Manager or UCS Central is used to manage blade/rack servers and fabric interconnects in a data center. Engineers can download the CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-NOTIFS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-NOTIFS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) blade/rack servers and fabric interconnects

Monitoring Examples

This module defines notifications, not polled data objects, so no sample objects were supplied and none should be invented; an SNMP manager would instead configure trap receivers to catch these notifications directly. In practice a monitoring system would receive an active-fault trap when a UCS component (e.g., a power supply or blade) reports a problem, then later receive the matching cleared trap once the underlying condition resolves. The acknowledged trap indicates an operator has manually acknowledged a fault in UCS Manager, useful for tracking incident-response workflow rather than the fault's technical state.
