Description: MIB for hardware capability catalog management on Cisco UCS, tracking platform feature availability, operational status, and firmware-driven capability updates across UCS components

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-CAPABILITY-MIB?

This Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) MIB is part of the UCS Manager information-model family and represents the CAPABILITY package, which tracks the catalog of hardware and firmware feature capabilities known to UCS Manager for blades, chassis, and other components. It exposes configuration/inventory data (capability catalog entries identified by distinguished names) together with finite-state-machine (FSM) fields tracking the progress of in-flight capability-catalog or firmware-provisioning tasks. Its monitoring emphasis is squarely on software/firmware status: the FSM progress, previous state, and remote-invocation error code/description fields reveal whether a capability-catalog update or firmware provisioning workflow on a UCS component is proceeding, stalled, or failed, functioning much like a job/task status mechanism. It is one member of the larger CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-MIB family that mirrors the UCS Manager XML/Java object model, and correlates with sibling UCS MIBs (compute, fault, diagnostics) via shared distinguished names. Typical deployment is within a UCS Manager-managed domain of blade chassis and Fabric Interconnects, and this CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-CAPABILITY-MIB reference is useful for correlating capability-catalog states across UCS components.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-CAPABILITY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco UCS blade servers and chassis
  • Cisco UCS Manager-managed compute domains

Monitoring Examples

cucsCapabilityCatalogueTable/cucsCapabilityCatalogueEntry rows, keyed by cucsCapabilityCatalogueInstanceId and identified by cucsCapabilityCatalogueDn/cucsCapabilityCatalogueRn, expose cucsCapabilityCatalogueFsmProgr and cucsCapabilityCatalogueFsmPrev describing the progress of a capability-catalog update task, with cucsCapabilityCatalogueFsmRmtInvErrCode/cucsCapabilityCatalogueFsmRmtInvErrDescr surfacing any remote-invocation failure. An admin polling these after triggering a firmware/capability catalog update would use a stalled FSM progress value or a populated error code to detect a stuck update blocking blade provisioning.

What Can Be Monitored

  • capability catalog update progress (FSM state)
  • previous FSM state
  • remote invocation error codes
  • capability catalog entry identifiers
  • firmware/capability update task status
