Category: Cisco Devices, Network Monitoring (RMON), SNMP Framework

Description: Declares agent capabilities for NetFlow hardware flow export functionality on Cisco Catalyst switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-SWITCH-NETFLOW-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-SWITCH-NETFLOW-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module that documents which parts of the companion CISCO-SWITCH-NETFLOW-MIB a particular Cisco Catalyst switch's SNMP agent implements, covering hardware-based NetFlow flow-export functionality. As an agent-capabilities module it defines no runtime data objects of its own; it is purely metadata describing implementation support (groups, variations, and value ranges) for network management systems and MIB compilers. Consequently it plays no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status; no uptime, temperature, CPU, or interface counters are exposed here, its function is limited to conformance declaration. Its entire purpose is dependent on the CISCO-SWITCH-NETFLOW-MIB, which defines the actual NetFlow configuration and statistics objects this capabilities statement describes support for. It is used only by management software during MIB support discovery, not queried for live operational data on the switch. Engineers can download the CISCO-SWITCH-NETFLOW-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-SWITCH-NETFLOW-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Catalyst switches (NetFlow feature)

Monitoring Examples

This is a conformance/AGENT-CAPABILITIES module, not a data-bearing MIB, so it contains no tables or scalar objects that would be polled in a monitoring scenario. Network management systems reference it only to determine which NetFlow-related groups and objects from CISCO-SWITCH-NETFLOW-MIB a given switch's agent actually supports. There is no runtime data to describe here; live NetFlow statistics would instead be found in CISCO-SWITCH-NETFLOW-MIB itself.
