Organization: Cisco Systems Inc.

Last Updated: 1998-10-23

Category: Cisco Devices, Device Management

Description: Manages network management access, community strings, and manager lists on Cisco SIBU small and medium business switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-SIBU-MANAGERS-MIB?

CISCO-SIBU-MANAGERS-MIB configures management access on Cisco's SIBU (small/medium business) switch line, covering IP addressing for the management interface, console/CLI session controls, web administration, and SNMP manager access lists. It belongs to the same entry-level Cisco device-configuration MIB family as CISCO-SIBU-FLASH-MIB. Rather than hardware telemetry, its monitoring/configuration value is around management-plane software status: whether the device's IP configuration (address, subnet mask, gateway) is set correctly, whether web administration is enabled and on which port, and which SNMP manager addresses are authorized to issue set requests. It is a self-contained proprietary Cisco MIB without significant dependency on external standard MIBs. It is deployed by administrators of small-office Cisco switches to manage and lock down remote configuration access, typically starting with a CISCO-SIBU-MANAGERS-MIB download loaded into their MIB browser of choice.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-SIBU-MANAGERS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco SIBU/SMB switches

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would check cmIpConfigAddress, cmIpConfigSubnetMask, and cmIpConfigDefaultGateway to confirm the switch's management IP is correctly assigned, and inspect cmSnmpSetManagerTable/cmSnmpSetManagerEntry (via cmSnmpSetManagerAddr) to verify only authorized hosts can perform SNMP writes. Reviewing cmConsoleCLIInactiveTimeout and cmConsoleCLIPasswordMaxAttempts alongside cmConsoleWebAdminState would reveal whether session security controls are properly hardened or left at insecure defaults.

What Can Be Monitored

  • management IP address/subnet/gateway configuration
  • authorized SNMP manager addresses
  • CLI inactivity timeout and password attempt limits
  • web administration enable state and port
  • console session security settings
