Description: The number of occasions when a RTT operation could not be initiated because some necessary internal resource (for example memory, or SNA subsystem) was not available, or the operation completion could not be recognized.

Since a RTT operation was never initiated or was not recognized, the completion time of these operations are not accumulated, nor do they increment rttMonStatsCaptureCompletions (in the expected Distribution Bucket).

When the RttMonRttType is 'pathEcho', and this error occurs and the rttMonStatsCapturePathIndex cannot be determined, this error will be accumulated in the source to target path, that will always exist.

This object has the special behavior as defined by the ROLLOVER NOTE in the DESCRIPTION of the ciscoRttMonMIB object.

What is rttMonStatsCollectDrops?

Counts how many RTT operations could not be started or had their completion go unrecognized due to unavailable internal resources such as memory.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Select a Cisco Catalyst 9300 series switch as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type rttMonStatsCollectDrops into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the number of times an RTT (IP SLA) operation could not be initiated because a necessary internal resource, such as memory, wasn't available. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases between polls, since dropped RTT operations mean your synthetic monitoring probes aren't reliably running. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
