Category: Cisco Devices, Network Monitoring (RMON), SNMP Framework
Description: Declares SNMP agent capabilities for IP SLA/RTT Monitor operations on Cisco routing and switching platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-RTTMON-CAPABILITY?
CISCO-RTTMON-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module that declares which parts of CISCO-RTTMON-MIB (Cisco's IP SLA / Response Time Reporter feature) a particular Cisco IOS/IOS-XE agent implementation actually supports, including supported RTT operation types, thresholds, and history features. It contains no runtime data objects of its own; it is purely a conformance/compliance declaration used by NMS tooling to determine feature support before polling the real CISCO-RTTMON-MIB tables. Consequently it has no monitoring value in itself for hardware or software status - the actual IP SLA jitter, latency, and reachability data lives in CISCO-RTTMON-MIB, which this module merely describes support for. It is entirely dependent on CISCO-RTTMON-MIB by definition, since an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module exists only to annotate another module's object groups. As a CISCO-RTTMON-CAPABILITY reference, it is relevant wherever Cisco IOS/IOS-XE devices run IP SLA probes and an NMS needs to verify feature-level compatibility before configuring or polling those probes.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-RTTMON-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco IOS/IOS-XE router or switch supporting IP SLA (RTTMON)
Monitoring Examples
This is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module, so no sample objects were provided and none apply - it contains no runtime data objects to poll. Instead of monitoring device state, an NMS would parse this module during discovery to determine which CISCO-RTTMON-MIB operation types (e.g., echo, jitter, HTTP) and history-retention features the specific IOS/IOS-XE image supports before attempting to configure IP SLA probes. It provides no information about an actual probe's current latency, loss, or jitter results.
