Category: Cisco Devices, IP and Core Protocols, SNMP Framework

Description: Declares agent capability statements for the SCTP (Stream Control Transmission Protocol) MIB on Cisco devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-SCTP-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-SCTP-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module that documents which parts of the CISCO-SCTP-MIB (Stream Control Transmission Protocol MIB) a particular Cisco device's SNMP agent actually implements. Rather than exposing any runtime data itself, it is a conformance/compliance declaration used by network management systems to determine feature support before polling the real SCTP MIB. It has no bearing on hardware or software health monitoring directly; its role is purely to describe agent capability boundaries for the SCTP transport protocol implementation. It is entirely dependent on, and meaningless without, the companion CISCO-SCTP-MIB it describes. It would be present on Cisco platforms that implement SCTP-based signaling transport, such as those used in Sigtran/telephony signaling gateways. Engineers can download the CISCO-SCTP-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-SCTP-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco routers/gateways implementing SCTP (e.g. Sigtran signaling gateways)

Monitoring Examples

This is a conformance/AGENT-CAPABILITIES module with no runtime data objects (sample_objects is empty), so it defines no pollable counters or status values itself; it exists purely to declare which groups of CISCO-SCTP-MIB the agent supports.
