Description: Declares agent capabilities for OTN (Optical Transport Network / G.709) interface management on Cisco platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-OTN-IF-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-OTN-IF-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module declaring which objects of the CISCO-OTN-IF-MIB a given Cisco platform's agent implements for Optical Transport Network (OTN/ITU-T G.709) interface management. It carries no operational data of its own; it exists solely to state which OTN interface objects -- likely covering framing, FEC status, and optical layer parameters defined in the base MIB -- are supported on a given device and software combination. As a capabilities-only module it plays no direct role in hardware/software health monitoring itself, but it governs which OTN fault and performance data (e.g. optical signal degrade, FEC error counts) a management station can rely on from the companion CISCO-OTN-IF-MIB. It is entirely dependent on, and only interpretable alongside, CISCO-OTN-IF-MIB and the underlying ITU-T G.709 OTN standard. It would typically be consulted during NMS onboarding for Cisco optical transport platforms. Engineers can download the CISCO-OTN-IF-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-OTN-IF-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco optical transport platforms supporting OTN/G.709 interfaces

Monitoring Examples

There are no monitorable runtime objects in this module; it is strictly a conformance/capabilities declaration. Management tooling would consult it to determine, ahead of deployment, which OTN interface objects (such as optical layer status or FEC error counters) from CISCO-OTN-IF-MIB are actually implemented on a specific Cisco optical platform's software version. No monitoring scenario applies.
