Description: Declares agent capabilities for the Cisco optical monitoring MIB on supported platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-OPTICAL-MONITOR-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-OPTICAL-MONITOR-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES module describing SNMP agent support for CISCO-OPTICAL-MONITOR-MIB, which covers optical transceiver/interface monitoring on supported Cisco platforms. It contains no operational data itself, only a declaration of which optical-monitoring object groups and variations a given agent version implements. It therefore has no direct role in monitoring optical power levels, temperature, or transceiver status—that data lives in CISCO-OPTICAL-MONITOR-MIB. It is entirely dependent on, and a companion to, CISCO-OPTICAL-MONITOR-MIB. It is used by MIB compilers and NMS tooling consulting the CISCO-OPTICAL-MONITOR-CAPABILITY MIB during capability negotiation rather than for day-to-day operational monitoring.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-OPTICAL-MONITOR-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco platform with optical transceivers/interfaces

Monitoring Examples

This is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module with no runtime data objects (sample_objects is empty), so there is no realistic monitoring scenario to describe; it only records which parts of CISCO-OPTICAL-MONITOR-MIB a particular agent implements.
