Category: Cisco Devices
Description: Manages Cisco I/O module operations and interface I/O statistics.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CIOMIB?
CIOMIB is a Cisco enterprise MIB whose sample objects (adaptec/storagemanagement naming, devTable/devEntry structures) indicate it centers on Cisco I/O module and attached storage device management, tracking device inventory and I/O module operational data. It exposes a device table describing each detected I/O device's type, description, sub-identifier, media block size, formatted media capacity, and whether it is removable and currently loaded, alongside module revision information. For monitoring purposes it is primarily useful for tracking hardware inventory and status -- specifically whether removable media/storage devices are present ("loaded"), their type and capacity, and the firmware/software revision (revMajor/revMinor) of the I/O subsystem. It appears to build on Adaptec storage-management conventions given the "adaptec"/"storagemanagement" object identifiers in its tree. It is typically deployed on Cisco platforms (such as storage-capable routers/appliances or media gateways) that include removable storage or I/O modules needing inventory tracking. Engineers can download the CIOMIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CIOMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Adaptec storage management agent hosts (legacy)
Monitoring Examples
An administrator polls deviceTable (devEntry: devIndex, devType, devTypeDescr, devMediaBlockSize, devFormattedMediaCapacity) to enumerate attached I/O/storage devices and their capacities, and checks devRemovableDevice combined with devLoaded to detect whether a removable media device (e.g., a tape or disk cartridge) is currently inserted. If devLoaded unexpectedly changes to "not loaded" during a backup job, this would indicate the media was ejected or failed, revealing an operational fault. revMajor/revMinor can also be checked to confirm the I/O module's firmware revision matches the expected baseline.
What Can Be Monitored
- attached I/O/storage device inventory
- device type and media capacity
- removable media loaded/present status
- I/O module firmware revision (revMajor/revMinor)
