Category: Cisco Devices, MPLS and Traffic Engineering, Textual Conventions and Registries

Description: Adds Cisco-specific textual conventions to the IETF MPLS TC MIB to support label switching management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-MPLS-TC-EXT-STD-MIB?

CISCO-MPLS-TC-EXT-STD-MIB is a Cisco-authored, IETF-style SNMP module that defines textual conventions (TC) extending the standard MPLS-TC-STD-MIB for MPLS-based transport networks, used in Cisco MPLS-capable routers and switches. Rather than exposing runtime data objects itself, it supplies shared type definitions (data types, enumerations) that other MPLS-related MIBs on Cisco platforms reference when defining their own managed objects. As a textual-conventions-only module it does not directly expose pollable hardware or software status data such as uptime, temperature, or CPU load; its role is purely definitional/supporting infrastructure for other MPLS MIBs. It explicitly depends on and extends the IETF MPLS-TC-STD-MIB, and by extension the broader family of MPLS management MIBs (LSR, TE, VPN). Typical deployment context is Cisco MPLS provider-edge and core routers where MPLS label switching, traffic engineering, or VPN MIBs rely on these shared type definitions. Engineers can download the CISCO-MPLS-TC-EXT-STD-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-MPLS-TC-EXT-STD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral base (Cisco extension of IETF standard), applies to Cisco MPLS-capable routers/switches

Monitoring Examples

This module has no sample objects and defines only textual conventions rather than runtime tables - there are no objects here to poll directly. Instead, other Cisco MPLS MIBs (e.g. for LSRs or TE tunnels) import these type definitions to structure their own managed objects such as label values or tunnel states. No realistic monitoring scenario can be constructed from this module alone since it is a conformance/type-definition support module, not a data-exposing one.
