Description: Manages NBAR (Network-Based Application Recognition) application visibility on Cisco LWAPP wireless controllers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-LWAPP-NBAR-MIB?

The CISCO-LWAPP-NBAR-MIB manages Network-Based Application Recognition application-visibility configuration on Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers that terminate LWAPP/CAPWAP tunnels from lightweight access points, covering the classification engine that identifies both static and dynamic port applications. It exposes objects reporting the NBAR/AVC engine and protocol pack versions, along with profile and rule tables that define which applications are recognized and how they are treated. Administrators use it to monitor the software version and configuration status of the application-recognition subsystem, verifying cLNbarAVCEngineVersion and cLNbarAVCProtoPackVer are current, and reviewing profile/rule tables to confirm the intended application-visibility policy is active, which matters for troubleshooting misclassified or unthrottled application traffic. It is part of the Cisco LWAPP/CAPWAP controller MIB family and depends on Cisco's proprietary NBAR/AVC classification technology rather than an open standard. It is deployed in enterprise WLANs wanting visibility into and control over which applications wireless clients are using. Engineers can download the CISCO-LWAPP-NBAR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-LWAPP-NBAR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Wireless LAN Controller (WLC) with LWAPP/CAPWAP-connected access points

Monitoring Examples

An admin checks cLNbarAVCEngineVersion and cLNbarAVCProtoPackVer/cLNbarAVCFlexProtoPackVer to confirm the NBAR classification engine and protocol pack are up to date, since an outdated pack could fail to recognize newer applications. cLNbarAVCProfileTable/cLNbarAVCProfileEntry list configured application-visibility profiles by cLNbarAVCProfileName, and cLNbarAVCRuleTable/cLNbarAVCRuleEntry show the classification rules within each profile, useful for verifying a specific application is correctly classified and policed as intended.

What Can Be Monitored

  • NBAR/AVC engine and protocol pack version
  • application-visibility profile configuration
  • classification rule definitions
  • profile/rule row status
