Category: ATM, Cisco Devices
Description: Extends LANE LEC management with Cisco-specific configuration and operational status objects.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-LEC-EXT-MIB?
CISCO-LEC-EXT-MIB is a small Cisco extension to the ATM Forum's LAN Emulation Client (LEC) MIB, adding Cisco-specific configuration for mapping LAN Emulation Clients to VLANs. It exposes a single table associating each LEC instance with a VLAN ID, along with the module's standard notification and conformance infrastructure. Its monitoring value is largely configuration-status: confirming which VLAN a given LANE client is emulating over an ATM network, rather than performance counters or environmental data. It explicitly depends on and extends the ATM Forum's standard LANE Client MIB, so it must be read together with that base MIB for full LEC status. It is typically deployed on legacy Cisco ATM switches/routers running LAN Emulation to bridge ATM networks with Ethernet VLANs. Engineers can download the CISCO-LEC-EXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-LEC-EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco ATM switches/routers running LAN Emulation (LANE)
Monitoring Examples
An admin can poll cLecToVlanTable/cLecToVlanEntry keyed by a LEC identifier to read cLecToVlanId (cLecExtVlan) and confirm a LAN Emulation Client is mapped to the expected VLAN; a mismatch here would explain why traffic from an ATM-attached LEC isn't reaching the correct Ethernet VLAN segment.
What Can Be Monitored
- LEC-to-VLAN mapping
- VLAN ID assigned to a LAN Emulation client
