What Is CISCO-IPSLA-ECHO-MIB?

CISCO-IPSLA-ECHO-MIB is a Cisco IOS MIB that defines templates for IP SLA (Service Level Agreement) echo-type operations - ICMP echo (ping), UDP echo, and TCP connect - used to measure end-to-end network performance between a Cisco router and any IP-enabled device. It exposes configuration templates for these probe types (source address, timeout, packet size, ToS/DSCP, VRF) and stores round-trip-time and reachability results as performance data. This MIB is a network/software performance monitoring tool rather than a hardware sensor MIB: it continuously measures latency and packet-verification failures to remote endpoints, with cipslaIcmpEchoTmplThreshold triggering alerts when response time exceeds acceptable bounds, functioning like an automated network health-check probe. It is a component of the broader Cisco IP SLA MIB family (working alongside CISCO-RTTMON-MIB and related IP SLA MIBs) and depends on that overall IP SLA operation framework. An admin configures and polls cipslaIcmpEchoTmplTable/cipslaIcmpEchoTmplEntry by cipslaIcmpEchoTmplName, setting cipslaIcmpEchoTmplTimeOut and cipslaIcmpEchoTmplThreshold to catch a remote site whose round-trip time has degraded beyond SLA. cipslaIcmpEchoTmplVrfName lets them run the probe within a specific VRF to test reachability across an MPLS VPN, and cipslaIcmpEchoTmplVerifyData confirms payload integrity, revealing corruption on a marginal WAN link. A rising response-time trend on a given template typically signals congestion or a failing path to that destination.
