Category: Cisco Devices, Fibre Channel and Storage

Description: Manages Cisco Fabric Services, enabling configuration distribution and synchronization across Cisco MDS SAN fabric switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-CFS-MIB?

CISCO-CFS-MIB manages Cisco Fabric Services (CFS), the infrastructure Cisco MDS SAN switches use to distribute and synchronize feature configuration across all switches participating in a shared fabric. It exposes a feature operation table that tracks which CFS-enabled features (such as zoning or VSAN config) are running a distribution operation, what action was requested, its scope, and the result of the last operation. This is primarily a configuration-synchronization and operational-status MIB: it lets an administrator confirm that a configuration change pushed on one switch successfully propagated fabric-wide, and it surfaces software-level failures via cfsFeatureOpLastActionResult and cfsFeatureOpLastFailureReason when a distribution fails. It depends on the broader Cisco MDS SAN fabric management MIB family and assumes an underlying fabric membership/topology already discovered by other Cisco Fibre Channel MIBs. It is used in Cisco MDS 9000-series SAN switch deployments where consistent zoning and VSAN configuration across many switches is operationally critical. Engineers can download the CISCO-CFS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-CFS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco MDS SAN switches
  • Cisco Fibre Channel fabric switches

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll cfsFeatureOpTable/cfsFeatureOpEntry to see cfsFeatureOpName and cfsFeatureOpLastAction for features like zone or device-alias distribution, checking cfsFeatureOpLastActionResult to confirm a commit succeeded fabric-wide. A non-success result paired with a populated cfsFeatureOpLastFailureReason would reveal that a peer switch rejected or failed to apply the distributed configuration, prompting investigation of that specific node.

What Can Be Monitored

  • CFS feature operation status
  • last distribution action and scope
  • last operation result
  • failure reason on distribution error
  • per-feature configuration sync state
