Category: Cisco Devices, VPN and Security

Description: Manages IKE phase 1 and phase 2 policy, proposal, and security association configuration for IPsec VPNs.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-IKE-CONFIGURATION-MIB?

CISCO-IKE-CONFIGURATION-MIB manages IKE (Internet Key Exchange) phase 1 and phase 2 configuration for IPsec VPNs on Cisco security devices and routers. It exposes configuration data such as global IKE enable and aggressive-mode flags, an identity configuration table with DOI and identity type per peer, and initiator index tables for negotiation slots. This is primarily a configuration/software-status MIB -- it lets an admin confirm IKE is enabled, aggressive mode is set as intended, and identity/DOI parameters are correctly provisioned per peer, which is essential software-state information for verifying VPN tunnel negotiation readiness, complemented by notifications for configuration-related events. It works alongside CISCO-IKE-FLOW-MIB and CISCO-IKE-FLOW-EXT-MIB, which monitor runtime IKE tunnel status, and builds on standard ISAKMP/IPsec concepts. It is typically deployed on Cisco VPN routers, firewalls, and IPsec head-end/concentrator devices. Engineers can download the CISCO-IKE-CONFIGURATION-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-IKE-CONFIGURATION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco VPN routers/firewalls (IPsec/IKE gateways)

Monitoring Examples

cicIkeCfgIdentityTable/cicIkeCfgIdentityEntry stores cicIkeCfgIdentityDoi and cicIkeCfgIdentityType per configured identity, letting an admin confirm each VPN peer's ISAKMP identity is provisioned correctly; cicIkeEnabled and cicIkeCfgInitiatorTable are polled to verify IKE is globally enabled and that pending initiator negotiation slots exist. A mismatch between a configured cicIkeCfgIdentityDoi/Type and what a remote peer expects would explain failed phase-1 negotiations even though the base IKE service itself is enabled.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IKE global enable/aggressive-mode status
  • configured IKE peer identities and DOI
  • initiator negotiation slot allocation
  • IKE configuration change notifications
