Description: Manages Frame Relay pseudowire emulation over packet-switched networks for legacy Frame Relay service transport.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-IETF-PW-FR-MIB?
CISCO-IETF-PW-FR-MIB is a Cisco vendor MIB (registered under ciscoExperiment, based on the IETF PWE3 Frame Relay over Pseudowire draft) that manages Frame Relay pseudowire emulation over a packet-switched network. It exposes cpwVcFrTable for one-to-one FR-VC-to-PW mappings (cpwVcFrIfIndex, cpwVcFrDlci, cpwVcFrAdminStatus, cpwVcFrOperStatus, cpwVcFrRowStatus) and cpwVcFrPMTable for port-mode mappings where all DLCIs on a port share a single PW. Each entry correlates to the corresponding row in the generic Pseudowire MIB's VC table via a shared index, so this MIB layers Frame Relay-specific status (cpwVcFrPw2FrOperStatus, the FR-segment operational state) on top of the base PW connection state. It depends on CISCO-IETF-PW-TC-MIB, IF-MIB, and CISCO-FRAME-RELAY-MIB for shared types and is deployed on Cisco routers acting as Frame Relay/PW gateways carrying legacy FR traffic over MPLS or IP PSNs. Network engineers rely on the CISCO-IETF-PW-FR-MIB MIB to confirm whether a given DLCI's pseudowire emulation is administratively up and operationally active end to end.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-IETF-PW-FR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco routers/switches supporting Frame Relay over Pseudowire (FRoPW) emulation
Monitoring Examples
An operator polls cpwVcFrTable (indexed by cpwVcFrPwVcIndex) to check cpwVcFrDlci against cpwVcFrAdminStatus and cpwVcFrOperStatus; cpwVcFrOperStatus reporting inactive while cpwVcFrAdminStatus is up(1) would indicate the Frame Relay segment or the underlying pseudowire has failed, breaking end-to-end FR service for that DLCI.
What Can Be Monitored
- FR VC to pseudowire connection mappings
- DLCI administrative and operational status
- FR-segment vs. PW-segment operational state
- port-mode (many-to-one) pseudowire mappings
- row status/storage type of PW-FR entries
