Description: Declares SNMP agent capability statements for the CISCO-IETF-DHCP-SERVER-EXT-MIB extended DHCP server management on Cisco platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-IETF-DHCP-SERVER-EXT-CAPABILITY?
This module is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES statement, not a data MIB, describing which object groups of CISCO-IETF-DHCP-SERVER-EXT-MIB a particular Cisco device's SNMP agent supports for extended DHCP server management. It doesn't expose live DHCP data itself; rather it documents implementation conformance so a management system knows in advance which extended DHCP-server features are available on a given Cisco platform/software version. Its practical monitoring value is indirect: it informs an NMS whether it can rely on the extended DHCP server MIB for tracking DHCP service software health, such as pool exhaustion, lease counts, and server status, before attempting to poll those objects, avoiding failed queries against unsupported OIDs. It is entirely dependent on CISCO-IETF-DHCP-SERVER-EXT-MIB, the MIB it profiles, and has no independent object structure of its own. It applies to Cisco routers/switches running the DHCP server feature and is consulted by MIB compilers and NMS platforms during capability negotiation rather than polled at runtime. Engineers can download the CISCO-IETF-DHCP-SERVER-EXT-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-IETF-DHCP-SERVER-EXT-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco routers/switches acting as DHCP servers
Monitoring Examples
An NMS onboarding a Cisco router as a DHCP server would consult this capability statement to determine whether extended lease/pool utilization objects from CISCO-IETF-DHCP-SERVER-EXT-MIB are implemented on that IOS version before scheduling polls. If a particular object group, such as extended binding statistics, is absent from the capability declaration, the monitoring tool would skip those OIDs rather than repeatedly timing out. This lets automated discovery tailor its DHCP-server monitoring profile per device/software combination.
What Can Be Monitored
- supported extended DHCP server MIB object groups
- agent conformance to CISCO-IETF-DHCP-SERVER-EXT-MIB
