Description: Supplies management objects for tracking GPRS Tunneling Protocol (GTP) tunnels, paths, and statistics on Cisco GGSN/SGSN platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-GPRS-GTP-MIB?

CISCO-GPRS-GTP-MIB manages the GPRS Tunneling Protocol (GTP) on Cisco GGSN/SGSN mobile core network gateways, which provide wireless packet-data access over GSM/GPRS infrastructure. It exposes GTP path/tunnel configuration timers (T3, N3, echo request intervals), resource limits (bandwidth, maximum PDP contexts), charging gateway configuration, and notification-enable flags for fault conditions like echo failures or PDP context activation rejects. It supports monitoring both configuration health and operational faults of the mobile packet core: an operator can track dropped packets, echo/keepalive failures indicating a dead GTP path to a peer GSN, and whether resource limits like bandwidth or PDP context counts are being approached. It is a 3GPP-GTP-protocol-based MIB rather than an IETF-derived one, so it depends on 3GPP GPRS/GTP specifications for its semantics. It is deployed on Cisco GGSN/SGSN mobile packet core gateways in GSM/GPRS mobile operator networks. Engineers can download the CISCO-GPRS-GTP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-GPRS-GTP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco GGSN/SGSN mobile packet-core gateways (legacy GPRS/GTP, GGSN R1.4)

Monitoring Examples

An operator can poll cgprsGtpChargingGWTable to confirm the charging gateway configuration is correct and cgprsGtpDroppedPktsMonTime alongside cgprsGtpNoRespToEchoNotifEnable to detect a GTP peer that has stopped responding to echo requests, indicating a dead tunnel path affecting subscriber data sessions. cgprsGtpMaxNumPDPCxts and cgprsGtpGSNTotalBandwidthResrc show whether the GSN is nearing its configured capacity limits.

What Can Be Monitored

  • dropped packet monitoring
  • echo request/response failures
  • PDP context activation rejects
  • charging gateway configuration
  • GSN bandwidth resource utilization
  • maximum PDP context limit
