What Is CISCO-FIREPOWER-NOTIFS-MIB?

CISCO-FIREPOWER-NOTIFS-MIB defines the SNMP notification (trap) objects used across the Cisco Firepower/UCS platform to alert on faults, significant events, and state changes detected by the underlying management-information model. Rather than exposing pollable data tables itself, it defines the trap PDUs and associated varbinds that carry fault information generated by other Firepower MIB modules covering hardware, software, and configuration subsystems. Its purpose is squarely fault/event monitoring: it is the mechanism by which an NMS learns in near real time about hardware failures, software errors, threshold crossings, or configuration problems occurring anywhere in the Firepower system, complementing the polling-based tables in sibling MIBs. It is tightly coupled to and dependent on the broader Cisco Firepower management-information-model MIB family, such as the PROCESSOR, SYSFILE, MGMT, and IMGSEC modules, whose fault conditions it reports. It is deployed on Cisco Firepower security appliances and UCS-based platforms, where CISCO-FIREPOWER-NOTIFS-MIB SNMP monitoring acts as the trap-generation layer feeding centralized fault-management/NMS systems.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-FIREPOWER-NOTIFS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Firepower security appliances / UCS-based platforms

Monitoring Examples

An NMS configured to receive SNMP traps from this MIB would be alerted the moment a Firepower chassis raises a fault trap, for example a processor over-temperature condition detected by CISCO-FIREPOWER-PROCESSOR-MIB or a failed image-security check from CISCO-FIREPOWER-IMGSEC-MIB, without needing to continuously poll those tables. Correlating the trap's varbind data with the corresponding fault object in the Firepower management model lets an operator quickly identify which subsystem raised the alert and its severity. This trap-driven approach reduces polling load while ensuring faults are surfaced immediately.

What Can Be Monitored

  • fault notifications/traps
  • event and state-change alerts
  • severity/source of raised faults
