What Is CISCO-EVC-MIB?

CISCO-EVC-MIB is a Cisco enterprise MIB that manages Ethernet Virtual Connections (EVCs), as defined by the Metro Ethernet Forum, on Cisco carrier/Metro Ethernet switching platforms. It exposes configuration and status data for EVC-capable ports, user-network interfaces (UNIs), and service instances, including per-port EVC/service-instance limits, MAC address learning limits, and violation causes. Administrators use it to monitor the software-level state of the Ethernet service layer -- how many EVCs and service instances are configured versus the platform maximum, current MAC address usage against configured limits, and the specific cause when a MAC-limit or service violation occurs -- surfacing capacity exhaustion or misconfiguration before it becomes service-affecting. It builds on standard Ethernet/interface MIBs (IF-MIB) since EVCs and UNIs are layered over physical/logical Ethernet ports. It is typically deployed on Cisco Metro Ethernet switches and routers delivering carrier Ethernet services to business and service-provider customers. Engineers can download the CISCO-EVC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

An operator would compare cevcNumCfgEvcs against cevcMaxNumEvcs to see how close a chassis is to its EVC capacity limit, and poll cevcPortTable/cevcPortEntry for cevcPortMaxNumEVCs and cevcPortMaxNumServiceInstances per port to catch a port nearing its service-instance ceiling. Checking cevcViolationCause alongside cevcMaxMacConfigLimit and cevcMacAddress would reveal whether a recent violation was due to exceeding the configured MAC address limit on a UNI. Walking cevcUniTable helps confirm which physical ports are enabled as user-network interfaces for EVC service delivery.
