Category: Cisco Devices, Hardware and Environment, SNMP Framework
Description: Defines SNMP agent capability statements for Cisco Entity Asset MIB tracking hardware inventory and asset attributes.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-ENTITY-ASSET-CAPABILITY?
CISCO-ENTITY-ASSET-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module describing which parts of CISCO-ENTITY-ASSET-MIB, the Cisco hardware asset/inventory tracking MIB, a given agent implementation supports. It carries no runtime hardware data itself, only statements about supported object groups and variations. It therefore has no direct role in reporting serial numbers, part numbers, or other asset attributes; that data resides in CISCO-ENTITY-ASSET-MIB proper. Its dependency is entirely on that base MIB and, transitively, on ENTITY-MIB for physical-entity indexing. It is used by NMS/MIB-compiler tooling to determine asset-tracking feature support on a given Cisco platform. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-ENTITY-ASSET-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-ENTITY-ASSET-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco router/switch hardware platform
Monitoring Examples
This module contains only AGENT-CAPABILITIES clauses referencing groups within CISCO-ENTITY-ASSET-MIB and defines no pollable objects of its own, so there is no runtime monitoring scenario to honestly describe from it. Actual asset attributes such as serial number, part number, and hardware revision would be polled from CISCO-ENTITY-ASSET-MIB directly. This module simply tells management tools which of that MIB's asset-tracking fields a specific Cisco platform implements.
