Description: Manages video and audio transcoding configuration and job status on the Cisco DMN D9800 digital satellite gateway.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-DMN-DSG-TRANSCODE-MIB?

CISCO-DMN-DSG-TRANSCODE-MIB, the Transcode MIB, is part of Cisco's Digital Media Network Digital Satellite Gateway family, covering the configuration and status of video/audio transcoding functions on D9800-series gateways. It exposes per-channel transcoder configuration objects such as vertical resolution, closed-caption packet mapping, and PCR rate, along with status/informational tables reflecting current transcoder operation. Its main monitoring value is confirming the operational status of the transcoding software/hardware pipeline, letting an operator verify that a configured transcode job (indexed by transcoderCfgIndex) is applying settings correctly and running rather than stalled or in an error state, via transcoderInfo and transcoderTable. As a Cisco-specific media-processing MIB it has no significant dependency on external standard MIBs beyond general SNMP table conventions. It is deployed in cable/satellite headends where incoming video/audio streams must be transcoded before distribution to subscribers. Engineers can download the CISCO-DMN-DSG-TRANSCODE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-DMN-DSG-TRANSCODE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco D9800 digital satellite gateway (transcoding module)

Monitoring Examples

An engineer would poll transcoderCfgTable (via transcoderCfgEntry, keyed by transcoderCfgIndex) to check transcoderCfgVRes and transcoderCfgPCRRate against expected values, then cross-reference transcoderTable/transcoderInfo to confirm the transcoder job is actively processing the configured stream. If transcoderCfgApplyInband shows a configuration failed to apply, or the transcoder status in transcoderTable indicates it has stopped, viewers downstream would experience lost or degraded video, prompting a transcoderLOIAction reset. Checking transcoderCfgCCPkt1/2/3 helps confirm closed-caption packet insertion is still correctly mapped after a config change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • transcode job configuration status
  • vertical resolution setting
  • PCR rate
  • closed-caption packet mapping
  • transcoder operational state
