What Is CISCO-DIAMETER-CC-APPL-MIB?

CISCO-DIAMETER-CC-APPL-MIB is a Cisco-specific implementation of the IETF Diameter Credit Control Application defined in RFC 4006, used in mobile and broadband networks for real-time online charging and policy enforcement. It exposes data about Diameter hosts and peer relationships, including peer identity, IP addressing, and connection tables used by Credit Control Application (CCA) entities. In terms of monitoring, it lets an operator track host and peer software status through fields like peer firmware revision, along with peer reachability and configured storage type, useful for diagnosing charging-session or connectivity failures between a Diameter client and its credit control server. It builds directly on IETF Diameter base protocol and credit-control application concepts, and its object naming reflects an initial Cisco adaptation of an early IETF draft. It is typically deployed on Cisco gateway or policy-control platforms that participate in mobile carrier billing and quota-management infrastructure. Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll cdccaPeerTable (indexed by cdccaPeerIndex) to enumerate active Diameter CC peers, checking cdccaPeerId and cdccaPeerFirmwareRevision to confirm which software version a peer is running, and cdccaHostIpAddrTable/cdccaHostIpAddrEntry to verify the IP addressing bound to each cdccaHostId. A sudden drop in populated rows in cdccaPeerTable, or a mismatched cdccaPeerFirmwareRevision after a maintenance window, would signal a lost credit-control session or an unexpected peer software rollback. Traps under ciscoDiameterCCAMIBNotifs would typically alert the NMS to such peer state changes in real time.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using cdccaPeerStatsCCRIn OID:

Select a Cisco mobile/broadband gateway (Diameter Credit Control) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type cdccaPeerStatsCCRIn into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the number of Diameter Credit-Control-Request (CCR) messages received, per peer. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline (in messages), since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
