All MIBs › CISCO-CONTENT-NETWORK-MIB
Organization: Cisco Systems, Inc.
Last Updated: 2001-10-11
Category: Cisco Devices, Web and Application Servers
Description: Monitors the Cisco Content Networking infrastructure, providing management for content routing, load distribution, and CDN topology.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-CONTENT-NETWORK-MIB?
CISCO-CONTENT-NETWORK-MIB is a Cisco proprietary MIB for Cisco's Content Networking infrastructure — Content Engines, Content Routers and related devices that cache and route content closer to clients. It exposes performance and accounting counters for DNS-based request routing (request rate, client counts) and caching efficiency (bytes served, objects cached, cache hit/miss rates). Its monitoring value is centered on service/software performance status rather than physical hardware sensors — revealing whether content is being served efficiently or whether caches are thrashing. It conceptually overlaps with generic DNS and HTTP-caching concerns but is implemented as a self-contained Cisco proprietary structure with its own notifications group. The CISCO-CONTENT-NETWORK-MIB MIB was deployed on Cisco Content Engine, Content Router and Content Distribution Manager appliances used in CDN/content-caching solutions.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-CONTENT-NETWORK-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco Content Engine
- Cisco Content Router
- Cisco Content Distribution Manager appliances
Monitoring Examples
ccnReportDnsRequestRate and ccnReportDnsClientCount show the DNS-based request-routing load on a content router, while ccnReportAcctCacheHitRate versus ccnReportAcctCacheMissRate reveals caching efficiency. A sudden drop in hit rate alongside rising ccnReportAcctBytesServed would suggest cached content is stale or being evicted too aggressively, a condition ccnNotifications could be configured to flag.
What Can Be Monitored
- DNS request rate
- DNS client count
- cache hit rate
- cache miss rate
- bytes served
- objects cached
