What Is CISCO-ATM-PVC-MIB?
CISCO-ATM-PVC-MIB is a Cisco proprietary MIB for configuring and monitoring ATM Permanent Virtual Circuits (PVCs) on Cisco ATM uplink cards, such as those found in Catalyst 5000 series switches, including binding a PVC to a VLAN for bridged PDU transport per RFC 1483. The data it exposes is primarily configuration-oriented: per-PVC port, VPI/VCI/VCD identifiers, PVC type, peak cell rate (PCR), OAM settings, polling frequency, and VLAN binding, alongside row-status for circuit provisioning. As a software/configuration-status MIB it lets an administrator confirm a PVC is correctly provisioned, active, and correctly bound to its target VLAN rather than reporting hardware faults directly. It builds on standard ATM MIB concepts as a Cisco-specific complement, implying reliance on the broader IETF ATM MIB framework for underlying ATM interface objects. It is typically deployed on legacy Cisco Catalyst 5000 ATM uplink modules used to bridge VLAN traffic over ATM permanent virtual circuits. Engineers can download the CISCO-ATM-PVC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-ATM-PVC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco Catalyst 5000 series switch with ATM uplink card
Monitoring Examples
An administrator walks capvcTable / capvcEntry to enumerate configured PVCs, checking capvcPort, capvcVPI, and capvcVCI to identify a specific circuit, and capvcRowStatus to confirm it is active rather than stuck in notInService. Reading capvcVlanId alongside capvcPCR and capvcOAM reveals whether a PVC is correctly bound to the expected VLAN and whether its configured peak cell rate matches provisioning intent. A PVC entry with an unexpected capvcRowStatus or a VLAN binding mismatch would indicate a misconfigured bridge path causing traffic to be dropped or delivered to the wrong VLAN.
What Can Be Monitored
- PVC provisioning status
- VPI/VCI identifiers
- peak cell rate
- OAM cell settings
- VLAN binding of a PVC
- PVC row status
