Description: Fore Systems error reporting MIB providing textual conventions and objects for recording and retrieving hardware and protocol error conditions.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is Fore-Errors-MIB?
Fore-Errors-MIB is a standalone Fore Systems vendor MIB defining objects for reporting SNMP set-request errors back to a management station. It exposes two key objects, tracked per source IP address and port, recording the last OID and last error message resulting from a failed SET operation. Its monitoring role is diagnostic and software-focused rather than hardware-oriented: it lets an administrator see exactly why a configuration change was rejected by the agent, without needing packet captures. It is a self-contained textual-convention MIB implicitly used by other Fore Systems MIBs whenever a SET request fails. It is used when managing Fore Systems (ForeRunner) ATM switches via SNMP to troubleshoot failed configuration attempts. Engineers can download the Fore-Errors-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Fore-Errors-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Fore Systems ForeRunner ATM switch
Monitoring Examples
lastLogMessage and lastLogMessageOID are populated per manager source whenever a SET request fails, so an administrator troubleshooting a rejected configuration push, such as an invalid VLAN or PVC parameter, can poll these objects to see exactly which OID and error text the agent returned instead of having to re-run the request under a packet capture.
What Can Be Monitored
- last SNMP error message per manager
- OID that caused the last error
- presence/absence of recent set-request errors
