What is cienaCesMplsTunnelPathUseCount?

This counter reports how many encapsulation (head-end) tunnels currently reference this explicit path definition to compute their route. An admin checks this before editing or deleting a path entry, since a nonzero use count means changing the hop list would immediately re-signal every tunnel attached to it, potentially causing a burst of simultaneous LSP re-establishment. For example, a use count of 14 on a path named via-secondary-core-router warns the admin that touching this path will affect 14 separate tunnels at once, not just the one they are currently working on.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Select a Ciena Carrier Ethernet switch as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type cienaCesMplsTunnelPathUseCount into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK.
