This is the operator-assigned name of an explicit route (a sequence of IP hops) that one or more MPLS tunnels can be told to follow instead of relying purely on IGP shortest-path routing. An admin names paths descriptively so that when reviewing which tunnels use a given hop sequence -- say during a planned maintenance on a specific link -- they can identify affected tunnels by path name rather than decoding raw hop lists. For example, a path named via-secondary-core-router immediately tells the admin this route deliberately avoids the primary core box.
