Description: This represents the pseudowire protection state. It only applies to those pseudowires in the protection bundle. For stand alone pseudowire this has no meaning and is reflected as n/a in this object
What is cienaCesMplsPwProtectionState?
This reports the pseudowire's current real-time state within its protection bundle -- for example active(2) if it's presently carrying traffic, standby(3) if it's the protected backup not currently forwarding, or man-swo-active(4) if it became active specifically due to a manual switchover command rather than an automatic failure-triggered one -- and shows not-applicable(1) for stand-alone pseudowires that have no protection bundle at all. Distinguishing man-swo-active from an automatically-triggered active state matters operationally because it tells the admin the current path was chosen by human intervention, not by a detected fault, which changes how urgently the underlying cause needs to be investigated. A PW unexpectedly showing standby(3) when it's supposed to be the primary path currently in use is the direct signal that a protection switchover has occurred and needs investigation.
