Description: Manages syslog message storage, remote server configuration, and log level filtering on Cisco IE1000 industrial Ethernet switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CIE1000-SYSLOG-MIB?
CIE1000-SYSLOG-MIB is a Cisco-private MIB for the Cisco IE1000 industrial Ethernet switch family that manages the device's syslog subsystem. It exposes configuration for remote syslog server destinations (mode, address, severity level) plus a history table of locally stored syslog messages, including message ID, severity level, timestamp, and message text. For monitoring, it is used to track the software/event-logging health of the switch—an admin can pull recent log entries to see software faults, configuration changes, or link events without console access, and verify remote logging is correctly configured and reaching its collector. It is a Cisco-private module independent of but complementary to the standard SNMPv2 notification framework, since it stores/forwards syslog text rather than SNMP traps. It is typically used in industrial/OT network deployments where centralized log collection from ruggedized switches is required for operational visibility. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CIE1000-SYSLOG-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CIE1000-SYSLOG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco IE1000 industrial Ethernet switches
Monitoring Examples
An admin polls cie1000SyslogStatusHistoryTable (indexed by cie1000SyslogStatusHistorySwitchId and cie1000SyslogStatusHistoryMsgId) to read cie1000SyslogStatusHistoryMsgLevel, cie1000SyslogStatusHistoryMsgTimeStamp, and cie1000SyslogStatusHistoryMsgText for recent events. A cluster of high-severity entries around the same timestamp would flag a software fault or link disruption; separately, cie1000SyslogConfigServerAddress and cie1000SyslogConfigServerLevel confirm whether remote syslog forwarding is enabled and at what severity threshold.
What Can Be Monitored
- remote syslog server configuration
- syslog message severity level
- syslog message history/text
- message timestamps
- switch ID for stacked/multi-switch logs
