Description: Declares agent capability statements for Cisco VLAN group management MIB on Catalyst switch platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-VLAN-GROUP-CAPABILITY?
CISCO-VLAN-GROUP-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module that declares which parts of the separate CISCO-VLAN-GROUP-MIB are actually implemented on a given Cisco Catalyst switch platform and software release. It does not define or expose any management objects itself; it is purely a conformance statement describing supported groups, objects, and any deviations for the VLAN group management functionality on the target platform. As a conformance-only module it has no bearing on runtime hardware or software status monitoring on its own -- its value is enabling management systems to determine, ahead of polling, which VLAN-group-related objects a particular Cisco switch actually supports. It is entirely dependent on, and meaningless without, the base CISCO-VLAN-GROUP-MIB that it describes conformance for. It is used internally by NMS/MIB-compiler tooling performing capability checks against Cisco Catalyst switch platforms, not for direct operational monitoring. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-VLAN-GROUP-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-VLAN-GROUP-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples
This module is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES statement, not a data-bearing MIB, so it defines no tables or objects that can be polled for monitoring; sample_objects for this module are empty because none exist. Its only function is to state which groups and objects of CISCO-VLAN-GROUP-MIB are supported (and any deviations) on a specific Cisco Catalyst switch software image, so an NMS can decide whether to attempt polling VLAN-group objects on that device.
