Category: Cisco Devices

Description: Manages SNMP agent configuration including community strings, users, and trap destinations on Cisco IE1000 industrial switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CIE1000-SNMP-MIB?

CIE1000-SNMP-MIB is a Cisco private MIB for managing the SNMP agent's own configuration on IE1000 industrial Ethernet switches, including the SNMPv3 engine ID, global admin mode, and community strings with source-IP restrictions. Its data is entirely configuration/security-oriented rather than fault or performance data. Its monitoring value is in auditing the SNMP management surface itself: confirming which communities and source addresses are authorized to poll the device, and detecting unauthorized changes to that access control. It implements a private analog of standard SNMP community/target management concepts. It is used during initial provisioning and ongoing security audits of SNMP access on industrial switches. Engineers can download the CIE1000-SNMP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CIE1000-SNMP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco IE1000 industrial Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

cie1000SnmpConfigCommunityTable exposes each configured community's cie1000SnmpConfigCommunityName, source IP and prefix restriction, letting an operator audit which management stations are authorized to poll the device via cie1000SnmpConfigCommunitySourceIP and SourceIPPrefixSize. cie1000SnmpConfigGlobalsEngineId and GlobalsMode confirm the SNMPv3 engine identity and whether SNMP access is enabled at all; an unexpected community entry or a loosened source-IP restriction would flag a security misconfiguration.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SNMP global admin mode
  • SNMP engine ID
  • configured community strings
  • community source-IP restrictions
