Description: Manages energy-efficient Ethernet and port power-saving features on Cisco IE1000 industrial Ethernet switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CIE1000-PORT-POWER-SAVINGS-MIB?
This is a Cisco private MIB for the Cisco IE1000 industrial Ethernet switch series, focused on the port power-saving (energy-efficient Ethernet) feature that reduces switch power draw on ports lacking an active link partner or connected via short cabling. It exposes per-interface capability, configuration, and status data organized into a capabilities table (whether a port supports power saving and short-reach detection), a configuration table (administrative settings per interface), and a status table (operational power-saving state per interface). For hardware/software status monitoring it lets an operator check whether individual switch ports are running in a reduced-power state, whether short-reach cabling has been detected, and whether power-saving is enabled per port — a power-management health indicator rather than classic environment sensors. It relies on the IF-MIB ifIndex convention (cie1000PortPowerSavingsCapabilitiesInterfaceIfIndex) to tie its per-port tables to standard interface indexing. It would be deployed in industrial/harsh-environment network deployments using Cisco IE1000 switches where power efficiency and cable-length diagnostics matter. Engineers can download the CIE1000-PORT-POWER-SAVINGS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CIE1000-PORT-POWER-SAVINGS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco IE1000 industrial Ethernet switch
Monitoring Examples
An administrator can poll cie1000PortPowerSavingsStatusInterfaceTable to see, per ifIndex, whether a port has entered power-saving mode because cie1000PortPowerSavingsCapabilitiesInterfaceLinkPartner indicates no active link partner is present. The cie1000PortPowerSavingsConfigInterfaceParamShortReach setting shows whether short-reach cable detection is configured for a port, which combined with cie1000PortPowerSavingsCapabilitiesInterfaceShortReach can reveal a mismatch between configured detection and the actual cable installed. This helps catch ports mistakenly left in power-saving mode when they should be actively linked.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-port power-saving capability
- link-partner presence per port
- short-reach cable detection
- per-port power-saving configuration
- per-port power-saving operational status
