Description: Manages IEEE 802.1s Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP) instance configuration on Cisco IE1000 industrial switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CIE1000-MSTP-MIB?

CIE1000-MSTP-MIB is a Cisco private MIB, based on the IEEE 802.1Q-2005/802.1s standard, for configuring and monitoring the Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP) on Cisco IE1000 series industrial Ethernet switches. It exposes bridge-wide MSTP parameters (max age, hello time, forward delay, force version), per-instance (MSTI) spanning-tree parameters, and protective features like BPDU filtering, BPDU guard, and error-recovery delay. Its monitoring value lies in verifying spanning-tree software configuration and behavior -- confirming timers are set correctly, that guard/filtering protections are active, and that error-recovery timing is configured -- which is important for catching network loop or topology-change issues quickly. It is explicitly derived from and dependent on the standard IEEE 802.1Q-2005 MSTP MIB structure, adapted as a private Cisco version. It is deployed on Cisco IE1000 industrial switches used in factory-floor and ruggedized networking environments where spanning-tree stability is critical, and engineers typically perform a CIE1000-MSTP-MIB download to load it into their monitoring tools before deployment.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CIE1000-MSTP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco IE1000 industrial Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

An admin can read cie1000MstpConfigBridgeParamsBridgeMaxAge, cie1000MstpConfigBridgeParamsBridgeHelloTime, and cie1000MstpConfigBridgeParamsBridgeForwardDelay to confirm the bridge's spanning-tree timers match the intended design, and check cie1000MstpConfigBridgeParamsBpduGuard/BpduFiltering to verify port-protection features are enabled. Walking cie1000MstpConfigMstiParamTable/Entry by cie1000MstpConfigMstiParamInstance reveals per-MST-instance configuration, useful for spotting an instance with mismatched parameters that could cause a topology loop. An unexpectedly long cie1000MstpConfigBridgeParamsErrorRecoveryDelay might explain slow recovery after a port error-disable event.

What Can Be Monitored

  • MSTP bridge timers (max age, hello time, forward delay)
  • BPDU filtering/guard status
  • per-MSTI instance configuration
  • error recovery delay
  • force version setting
