Description: Manages alarm thresholds and notification configuration for fault monitoring on Cisco IE1000 industrial Ethernet switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CIE1000-ALARM-MIB?

CIE1000-ALARM-MIB is a Cisco private enterprise MIB for the IE1000 series industrial Ethernet switches, part of Cisco's ruggedized industrial networking product line. It exposes configuration objects for defining named alarm expressions and actions, along with a status table reporting whether each configured alarm is currently active or has been suppressed. The MIB is squarely aimed at monitoring hardware and system health: an operator defines threshold-based alarm rules and then polls their real-time status, effectively surfacing fault conditions the switch has detected rather than raw metrics. It relies on other CIE1000 environment/hardware MIBs to supply the underlying sensor and counter data referenced inside its alarm expressions. It is typically used in industrial/OT network monitoring where an NMS needs to know when a defined fault condition, not just a raw value, has fired. Engineers can download the CIE1000-ALARM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CIE1000-ALARM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco IE1000 industrial Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator can walk cie1000AlarmConfigTable to see which alarm rules are defined (cie1000AlarmConfigAlarmName, cie1000AlarmConfigExpression, cie1000AlarmConfigAction) and then poll cie1000AlarmStatusTable's cie1000AlarmStatusSuppressed to see whether a given named alarm is currently active or has been silenced. A transition from suppressed to active on a rule tied to a power or link condition indicates the underlying condition it was written to detect has occurred. The cie1000AlarmConfigTableRowEditor objects support provisioning new alarm rules directly via SNMP SET.

What Can Be Monitored

  • configured alarm names and expressions
  • alarm action (e.g. log/trap)
  • alarm active/suppressed status
  • alarm rule provisioning via row editor
