Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CENTERA-MIB?
CENTERA-MIB is the EMC BDG Centera Manager MIB used to manage EMC Centera, a content-addressed storage (CAS) system designed for archiving fixed, non-erasable data. It exposes a notification-oriented data model -- generic trap objects carrying a timestamp, source server, free-text description, and severity level -- used to relay events from the Centera cluster's management software to an SNMP-based monitoring system. In monitoring terms it is used to track the operational and fault status of the Centera storage cluster's nodes and content-access subsystem, surfacing conditions ranging from informational events to serious hardware or capacity faults via the severity field, effectively acting as EMC's software-to-SNMP bridge for cluster health events. It is largely self-contained under the EMC enterprise OID branch, relying on standard SNMP notification conventions rather than other public MIBs. It would typically be deployed in an enterprise or regulatory-archive data center running an EMC Centera cluster for compliance-driven fixed-content storage. Engineers can download the CENTERA-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CENTERA-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- EMC Centera content-addressed storage cluster
Monitoring Examples
An administrator's NMS would receive genericNotify traps carrying notifyTimestamp, notifyServer, notifyDescription, and notifySeverity, letting them see, for example, that a given Centera node reported a high-severity storage capacity or node-failure event at a specific time. Because notifyDescription is free text, the operator relies on notifySeverity to triage which incoming Centera events need immediate attention versus routine informational logging. This MIB's structure indicates EMC intended broad event coverage through this generic trap rather than a large set of individually polled status objects.
What Can Be Monitored
- cluster/node event notifications
- event severity level
- event source server
- event timestamp
