Description: Manages IEEE 802 compliant lawful intercept (wiretap) configuration on Casa Systems cable CMTS equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CASA-802-TAP-MIB?

CASA-802-TAP-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Casa Systems for its cable CMTS equipment, defining configuration objects for IEEE 802 (Layer 2) lawful intercept (wiretap) functionality. It exposes a stream table (casa802tapStreamTable/casa802tapStreamEntry) describing intercept filter criteria such as interface, source/destination MAC address, Ethernet PID, and LLC SAP values, used to select which Layer 2 traffic streams are duplicated to a law-enforcement collection point. Its monitoring/configuration value is centered on confirming intercept provisioning correctness and status: casa802tapStreamInterceptEnable shows whether a given intercept stream is currently active, which is critical for both compliance verification and, conversely, ensuring intercepts don't inadvertently remain active. As explicitly stated in the module description, this MIB works together with and depends on CASA-TAP2-MIB, which supplies common stream information, and it supersedes the older CASA-TAP-MIB. It is deployed by cable operators' CMTS equipment operating under lawful intercept (CALEA-type) regulatory requirements. Engineers can download the CASA-802-TAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CASA-802-TAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Casa Systems CMTS

Monitoring Examples

An operator would query casa802tapStreamTable/casa802tapStreamEntry to confirm the filter criteria for an active 802 intercept, checking casa802tapStreamInterface, casa802tapStreamSourceAddress/casa802tapStreamDestinationAddress, and casa802tapStreamEthernetPid to verify the correct Layer 2 stream is being selected. Checking casa802tapStreamInterceptEnable would confirm whether the intercept is currently switched on, which is essential both for verifying an authorized intercept is functioning and for auditing that no unauthorized or stale intercepts remain enabled.

What Can Be Monitored

  • intercept stream filter configuration
  • intercept enable/disable status
  • source/destination MAC address filters
  • Ethernet PID/LLC SAP filter values
