Description: Manages time synchronization configuration (NTP/ToD) on ARRIS/Cadant CMTS platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CADANT-TIME-MIB?

CADANT-TIME-MIB is an ARRIS (formerly Cadant) vendor MIB for the C4 CMTS platform, addressing time-of-day synchronization services used in DOCSIS cable access network head-ends. It exposes configuration for time zone and daylight-saving settings, current local and UTC time readouts, and the choice and parameters of the time-sync protocol in use (legacy ToD protocol or NTP, including NTP server address, connection type, version, authentication, and clock-drift data). This MIB is used to monitor the software/configuration status of the CMTS's clock subsystem: whether the correct time-sync protocol is active, whether the configured ToD/NTP server is reachable, and whether reported clock drift indicates the device's internal clock is degrading or unsynchronized, which matters because CMTS timestamp accuracy affects billing, logging, and DOCSIS ranging/timing operations. It complements (but is separate from) the standard SNMPv2-MIB sysUpTime and any NTP-related MIBs for cross-checking clock behavior. It is deployed in MSO head-end/hub facilities on ARRIS/Cadant C4 CMTS chassis. Engineers can download the CADANT-TIME-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CADANT-TIME-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ARRIS/Cadant C4 CMTS
  • DOCSIS cable headend equipment

Monitoring Examples

An administrator reads cadNetTimeSyncProto to confirm the CMTS is configured for NTP rather than the legacy ToD protocol, then checks cadNtpVersionDefault, cadNtpAuthenticate, and cadNtpClockDrift to verify the NTP client is authenticating properly and staying within acceptable drift bounds. If cadLocalDateAndTime or cadUTCtime diverges noticeably from a reference clock while cadNtpClockDrift climbs, that signals the configured cadTodServerIpAddress is unreachable or the NTP session has silently failed. Because the CMTS timestamps subscriber cable-modem ranging and provisioning events, catching clock drift early through this MIB helps avoid downstream logging/billing timestamp errors.

What Can Be Monitored

  • active time-sync protocol
  • NTP server address and version
  • NTP authentication status
  • clock drift
  • local date/time and UTC time
  • time zone and DST configuration
