What Is CACHE-SERVER-MIB?

CACHE-SERVER-MIB, despite its generic name, is an IBM-specific MIB (object names use the ibmcacheserver prefix) for managing IBM's web cache server/HTTP proxy caching product, exposing operational and configuration data about cache partitions and caching behavior. It provides objects covering core-level status (active partition count, ECC port) and a per-partition table describing cache control mode, transparency, use of HTTP cache headers, and whether dynamic content, dynamic URLs, images, or static content are cached. From a monitoring perspective this MIB is centered on cache/software service health rather than physical hardware - an operator would use it to confirm the cache server process is running with the expected number of active partitions and that caching policies are correctly enabled per partition, which affects HTTP proxy performance and hit/miss behavior. It builds on standard SNMPv2-SMI/MIB-II conventions for its object structure but is otherwise a self-contained IBM enterprise MIB. It is typically deployed on IBM web cache/proxy server appliances or software instances, where CACHE-SERVER-MIB SNMP monitoring supports enterprise content-delivery or web-acceleration environments.

An operator would poll ibmcacheserverCoreActivePartitions to confirm the expected number of cache partitions are active, then walk ibmcacheserverPartitionTable/ibmcacheserverPartitionEntry (indexed by ibmcacheserverPartitionIndex) to check ibmcacheserverPartitionCacheControl and ibmcacheserverPartitionCacheDynamic/ibmcacheserverPartitionCacheStatic settings per partition. A drop in ibmcacheserverCoreActivePartitions below the expected count would indicate a partition failure or misconfiguration reducing cache capacity, while an unexpectedly disabled ibmcacheserverPartitionUseHTTPCacheHdrs could explain degraded cache hit rates.
