Category: Device Management
Description: Monitors Windows 2000 operating system resources through the Computer Associates (CA) management framework.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CA-W2KOS-MIB?
CA-W2KOS-MIB is a Computer Associates (CA) enterprise MIB used within the CA/Unicenter (TNG) management framework to configure and expose polling of Microsoft Windows 2000 host resources. Rather than presenting raw metrics directly, it centers on the agent's own configuration: the poll intervals for CPU, memory, logical volume, mount point, DFS, quota, directory, file, and process monitoring, plus the agent version and cold/warm start timestamps. This makes it a software-status MIB in the CA agent sense, its objects reveal whether the CA monitoring agent is running, how recently it restarted, and how frequently it samples each Windows subsystem, which is itself a proxy for overall Windows host health monitoring coverage. It depends on the underlying CA "cai"/"caiSysMgr"/"tng" enterprise MIB structure for its OID placement and object conventions. It is deployed on Windows 2000 servers running the CA Unicenter/TNG system agent for centralized enterprise monitoring. Engineers can download the CA-W2KOS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CA-W2KOS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Windows 2000 server running CA Unicenter/TNG agent
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would check w2kConfigGeneralAgentVersion and w2kConfigGeneralColdStartTime/w2kConfigGeneralWarmStartTime to confirm the CA agent is current and to see when it last restarted, which can explain gaps in collected data. Reviewing w2kConfigGeneralCpuPollTime and w2kConfigGeneralMemPollTime against actual reporting intervals in the Unicenter console helps verify the agent is sampling CPU and memory as configured. An unexpectedly long w2kConfigGeneralProcPollTime or w2kConfigGeneralFilePollTime could explain why process or file-system alerts are lagging real events.
What Can Be Monitored
- CA agent version
- agent cold/warm start time
- CPU/memory poll interval
- logical volume/mount/DFS poll interval
- process and file poll interval
