Organization: Aperto Networks

Last Updated: 2001-05-09

Category: Vendor: Alvarion, Wireless and WLAN

Description: Collects traffic and performance statistics for Alvarion BreezeACCESS base station unit (BSU) devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BSUSTATS-MIB?

BSUSTATS-MIB is part of Alvarion's BreezeACCESS fixed wireless broadband product family, providing statistical monitoring for the Base Station Unit (BSU). It exposes RF port-level traffic statistics (inbound/outbound packets and octets, number of subscriber units linked), per-service-class bandwidth allocation statistics, and signal-quality port statistics. It is squarely focused on performance and radio-link health monitoring — tracking traffic throughput, subscriber connection counts, and signal quality to assess the wireless link's operational health, and bandwidth allocation usage to catch capacity constraints, making it central to monitoring the BSU's software/service performance status. It is designed as a companion to BSUPARAM-MIB (configuration) and BSUVLAN-MIB (VLAN), sharing the same Alvarion "ani" object-naming convention. It is deployed at BreezeACCESS base stations in wireless ISP and telecom access networks to track RF performance and bandwidth utilization across subscriber links. Engineers can download the BSUSTATS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BSUSTATS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Aperto Networks (Ceragon) PacketWave/WiMAX base station units (BSU)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll aniBsuRfStatsNumSusLinked to track how many subscriber units are currently connected to the BSU, watch aniBsuRfStatsInPackets/aniBsuRfStatsOutPackets for unusual traffic drops or spikes, and check aniBsuStatsBWUSMaxAllocPercent against aniBsuStatsBWUSMaxAllocation to see whether upstream bandwidth allocation for a given service class is approaching its configured ceiling. A drop in aniBsuRfStatsNumSusLinked alongside falling packet counters would flag a base station experiencing a widespread link outage.

What Can Be Monitored

  • RF port packet/octet counters
  • number of subscriber units linked
  • upstream bandwidth allocation per service class
  • signal quality statistics
